The late Renza Mae Johnson, a lover of the almighty God who was a no-nonsense women of a few words, spoke with her eyes, kept any promise she made to you; was the wife of Rev. Monroe Johnson; together they bore 9 children, 6 girls and 3 boys; their children bore 35 grandchildren, their grandchildren bore 74 greatgrandchildren; their greatgrandchildren bore 42 and counting great-greatgrandchildren. At any given time 4 generations' of family would be at the family home on Catalpa St. in Louisville Kentucky where there was always an aroma coming from the kitchen, Mae as Rev. Johnson referred to her, was a domestic woman, an amazing cook/baker and handled a butcher-knife with perfection (a family inside joke) It's no secret that we haven't had a pineapple-upside down cake to this day that could touch hers.... Our beloved Renza Mae Johnson believed in giving people their flowers while they could yet smell them, which was the very song she sang in church seconds before her passing on January 25, 1981. This Gala is to help The Monroe Johnson Foundation, Inc. to continue to provide the necessary means for Trade-skills training. Local minority business owners will have an opportunity to be nominated for "New Business of the Year", and "Philanthropist of the Year". The "RMJ Award" will go to the business who has the longest Generational history.
